About

Monsoon Writing is now unmaintained. I used to keep it as a personal travel weblog, where my friends and family could keep up with events in my life as I shifted between countries. I have since got married, and my wife and I post our pictures and news on another site, so Monsoon Writing remains online now only for the sake of posterity.

Originally I started with a few pages back in 2005, hastily cobbled together and imaginatively entitled "Gareth's Travel Weblog", while I was living in Bombay, India. After a while I decided to build something a little more permanent - simply an upgraded version of the original site with a slightly more imaginative name. All of the original content was migrated, and remains available here.

I came up with the name 'Monsoon Writing' while flicking back through my old travel weblog - it was the name I used for one of my posts there. As well as the obvious link to India, to me the name immediately conjures up images of a unending torrent of words. It's no coincidence that many of my posts tend to end up resembling the same.

Browser Compatibility

This site is known to work best when viewed with Mozilla Firefox. If you don't already have a copy you can download it here - it's standards compliant, secure, and free. Most other browsers have not been tested, however all pages on this site are HTML-4.01 standards compliant, so if your browser is also standards compliant then you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Users of Microsoft's 'Internet Explorer' browser can expect to experience some minor display bugs, especially around the comment submission form, however the site should still be more or less functional. Users of KDE's 'Konqueror' browser may experience a white-on-white colour scheme around the comment submission form for some bizzare reason.

The site is designed with a target resolution of 1024x768 in mind, however it should still be useable with only 800x600. Yes, I know it's a crime to design a website without scalability in mind these days; sorry, but I'm not a professional web designer, and don't have the time or inclination to make it such. Those of you who're still using your lovely 640x480 / 256 colour setup from 1995 - you're out of luck I'm afraid :)
